So the Russians have now
claimed a "sphere of influence" in the old Soviet Republics. this of course has American op-ed pages
hopping mad... but not one of them takes to task our presidential candidates for referring to America's "vital national interests" abroad. Like, in oil rich Middle Eastern countries, for example. So, basically, spheres of influence are only okay when we do it.
